Department of Fine Arts
Class of 2017
Minor: Business Administration and Museum Studies
Jacob Foster transferred to Rutgers University–Camden from Camden County College in Fall 2015 as a Fine Arts major student with a Painting concentration. During his time at Rutgers–Camden, he participated in two CURCA (Celebration of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity) events, and received an Arts and Sciences Dean’s Undergraduate Research Grant for both. The first series of paintings, “Atmosphere: Paintings of Emotion and Sky” was supervised by Professor Bruce Garrity in Spring 2016. The second, “Psychology of Gesture in Contemporary Painting,” is supervised by Professor Margery Amdur and supports his senior thesis exhibition in the Stedman Gallery this spring. His current body of work uses his old family photographs as a source material. They provoke questions about childhood and family dynamics.
Jacob Foster is also pursuing minors in Business Administration and Museum Studies. As a result, he served 100 hours as a Curatorial Intern at the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial and at the Camden Shipyard & Maritime Museum. He is currently the Director of the Rutgers–Camden Student Works Gallery. With help from faculty advisors and other student interns, he has directed and curated many successful exhibits that collaborate with fine arts classes and other campus departments and organizations. For more information about the Student Works Gallery, visit the SWG webpage. Furthermore, he serves as an officer in the Art Students League where he leads monthly trips for students to tour Philadelphia’s art galleries.
