Today’s student feature is for Animation and Design student Alexis Phillips! Alexis has wanted to work in the animation industry since she was very young, having grown up with a love for cartoons, storytelling, and art. Alexis’ dream job is to be a storyboard artist/ character designer for children’s TV animation. She would love to work on shows similar to the ones that sparked her love for animation, such as Gravity Falls and Avatar! Her ultimate goal, however, is to work in a creative and collaborative environment. 3D Modeling and Typography have been Alexis’ favorite classes, where she has produced some of her favorite work. During her time at Rutgers, Prof. Shpanin has been a main inspiration for her. “He encourages me to put myself out there and has devoted much time to helping me achieve my goals.” Working with Prof. Shpanin has also allowed Alexis to be heavily involved in the art department, an accomplishment Alexis says she is proud of and has allowed her confidence and skill set to grow. When making art, Alexis says her goal is always to create something unique, funny, and something that brings her joy. Two artists that Alexis looks up to are Elisa Aguilera and Lily Hoang-Zhu.
Alexis is set to graduate next spring and we can’t wait to see where her passions take her! 🎨

It’s time for another student feature! This Friday we are recognizing senior Technical Theater Major, Eilis Skamarakas. Originally, Eilis started out as an education major, but rediscovered her love for theater here at Rutgers–Camden. Eillis’ favorite school production that she has been a part of is The Moors. In the classroom, set design has been a course that she really enjoyed and where she met some of her closest friends. Eilis was nominated for the Remarkable 31 award at Rutgers which is one of her proudest accomplishments. Another big accomplishment for her is the recognition she gets for her work from people she has never met. “There is something so rewarding about being known for the work I do and that my reputation precedes me in some places!” A huge mentor for Eilis during her college career has been Prof. Jim Mobley, a person in her life who has assisted her in pushing her work in a better direction. Ultimately, Eilis’ absolute dream job is to be a touring stage manager. When it comes to working in theater, Eilis says that her artistic goals lie in taking whatever lessons she can from each show, as no show is ever alike.
