Biography

Hugo Miranda is currently an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Rutgers University-Camden. He is studying piano under Clipper Erickson and composition with professor Mark Zaki. His interest in music emerged at a young age, which led to the beginning of his studies at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico for several years before deciding to pursue his music career in the United States.

In 2014 he was awarded 4th place in the Golden Key International Piano Composition Competition; subsequently, he was invited to and performed at the winner’s recital held at Ehrbar Hall in Vienna. During the same year, he received an honorable mention in the IBLA Grand Prize for piano composition.  He was invited to perform Reflets dans l’eau (Reflections in the Water) by Claude Debussy as a solo pianist in the 2016 Winter concert, which brought him to the attention of Lenuta Ciulei who invited him to join the Chamber Ensemble. He has been a participant in the Rutgers-Camden Music Program’s Winter and Spring concerts as the pianist for the university’s Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble, Madrigal Ensemble, and as an occasional solo pianist.

Beginning the semester of Fall 2017 Hugo was invited to join the Rutgers—Camden Honors College. He will participate in future Rutgers—Camden Winter and Spring concerts, for further information please refer to the concert schedule.
