The Black Box Studio is the more intimate side of the theater at Rutgers–Camden. Frequently used as both a production space and a classroom, the Black Box is built to serve many functions. With its clever, re-configurable seating arrangement, performances can be staged as if in a very small proscenium, in-the-round, and everything in between. Seating capacity can range anywhere from 68 (stadium configuration) to 100 plus (arena configuration).
The Black Box Studio is primarily used to stage student-directed pieces (such as our annual One-Act Festival), and as a rehearsal space for various different groups, including some from the neighboring community. Occasionally, a mainstage production will be performed in the Black Box due to its flexible nature.
The Black Box Studio Theater is also available for rental for many different kinds of events. For information on renting the space, visit the Campus Events Page.
