Biography
Michael Nikolidakis is an active musician and passionate music educator based in southern New Jersey. First self-taught, then formally educated, he has combined intuition with the guidance of master musicians to gain expertise in the areas of piano, guitar music theory and composition. Michael has studied with Frederic Rzewski, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Joel Hoffman, Gaurav Mazumdar (sitar), Tim Ribchester, Rob Auler, Joseph Federico and many others. Recent performances have included Berks Jazz Festival, Rutgers University, Perkins Center for the Arts, Django in June showcase and on air at WVUD Newark, Delaware. He is the director of a private teaching studio in South Jersey, where he trains students of all levels in the areas of piano, guitar and music theory, also specializing in the area of Gypsy Jazz guitar in the tradition of Django Reinhardt. In lessons, particular emphasis is placed on playing with musicality and developing effortless technique to avoid repetitive strain injuries and enable the best progress. Michael attended Rutgers University and the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music where he graduated summa cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition.
