Biography
Keith Yahrling is a photographer, educator, and fine art printer. He was selected as a finalist for the CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography and was selected as one of PDN’s 30: New & Emerging Photographers to Watch for 2015. He has exhibited work at Candela Gallery, Richmond, VA and Silver Eye, Pittsburgh, PA and has been included in group exhibitions at the Aperture Foundation, the Perkins Center for the Arts, and the Annenberg Space for Photography. His photographs have appeared in numerous publications such as Wired, Harper’s, PDN, Heavy Collective, Oxford American and Vice Magazine.
In addition to teaching, he is the Director of Fine Art Services at Tilt Institute in Philadelphia, PA, where he works with artists and museums to create editioned prints and to frame work for exhibitions.
Originally from South Jersey, photography offered a reason for him to travel beyond the familiar and gave him license to investigate what would otherwise be inaccessible. He uses photography as a means to explore the American landscape to understand its history and how it interacts with his own personal heritage. He also uses history, poetry, literature, and politics to understand the places and people he is photographing.
