Biography

Jeffrey Filbert is primarily a figurative artist, whether it’s painting, sculpture or printmaking, whether it’s realism or the figure stretched all the way to abstraction. Filbert graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). He is accomplished in realism, but he is relentlessly curious about other artistic possibilities. At PAFA he won the prestigious Scheidt Traveling Scholarship that he used to travel throughout Europe for a year mastering his classical studies.

During his artistic career, he not only further developed his realistic work, but also reached out to other expressive possibilities. He won numerous awards, grants and scholarship, including New Jersey Council on the Art award for sculpture.  His studio is a network of studios, ranging from painting to sculpture, silkscreen, mono printing and ceramics. He has a diverse body of work and years of knowledge and expertise in many art disciplines, yet he is still excited by new possibilities that are continually unfolding. His interest in the process of making art is one of the cornerstones of his teaching. His studio at 305 Benson Street is open during Camden’s Third Thursday art crawl from 6 – 9 pm.
