Biography
Trombonist Ian Kaufman received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz performance from Temple University. In 2020, Ian was nominated for 2 Grammy awards for his participation on the record “Constant Renaissance” by Vince Mendoza. In addition to this, Ian has appeared on several records including Triniece Robinson’s “All or Nothing” (2021), TU Big Band’s “Covid Sessions: A Social Call” (2020), and Steve Fidyck’s “Red Beats” (2022). Ian is a winner and finalist of several prestigious competitions including Yamaha Young Performing Artists, ITA Carl Fontana, and ATW Jazz Solo. Throughout his career, Ian has shared the stage and recorded with top artists including Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco, Arturo Sandoval, Wycliffe Gordon, Jimmy Heath, Joe Lovano, and John Clayton. Currently, Ian teaches jazz at the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers-Camden. Ian gigs frequently in the Philadelphia area as a full time freelance music educator, performer, and composer.
