BIOGRAPHY

Emilio Maldonado is a Dominican–Puerto Rican artist, curator, educator, and community organizer based in Philadelphia. His work draws from memory, migration, and material culture to examine identity, race, and the social conditions that shape human relationships. Working across painting, installation, drawing, and public art, Maldonado develops projects that connect personal narratives with broader cultural and historical contexts.

He first studied in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and later received an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in the United States, Puerto Rico, France, Germany, and the Dominican Republic.

In addition to his studio practice, Maldonado has led artist development initiatives and collaborative programs that strengthen connections between artists, institutions, and communities, supporting more sustainable and equitable working conditions within the arts.
