Biography
Abe Zubarev is an academic, writer, registered art therapist and sculptor living in Philadelphia & New York City. Abe teaches art therapy courses in the undergraduate art therapy concentration at Rutgers Camden. His interests focus on the arts in mental health including fields such as the medical humanities, arts in medicine, creative arts therapies, creativity in counseling and the psychological well-being of artists. Abe has worked as the Director of Counseling and Psychiatry at University of the Arts in Philadelphia since 2015. As a maker of found object sculpture, assemblages, collage, and book arts, Abe looks deeply into existentialism and the histories of psychology and psychiatry. His work has been exhibited locally and he has presented nationally at conferences. Abe holds a BA in philosophy and art history from Brooklyn College CUNY and masters degrees from Cornell, Harvard and Columbia in art history, arts education, and clinical social work. He completed post-master’s art therapy certification and recently obtained an MFA in Studio Art at the University of the Arts.
