Biography

Anabelle Rodriguez came to the Rutgers-Camden Fine Arts Department in 2012 as a Future Faculty Fellow at the Temple University Anthropology Department, where she specialized in the Anthropology of Visual Communication with a cross-cultural emphasis on Fine Art. She holds dual baccalaureate degrees in The Visual Arts and The History of Art & Architecture from Brown University (in consortium with RISD), and is a Smithsonian Latino Museum Studies Program alumna. She is a former Director of Education at the Museo de Arte de Ponce (Ponce, Puerto Rico), and Curator of Exhibitions & Visual Arts Program Manager at the Lorenzo Homar Gallery in Taller Puertorriqueño, Inc.

A curator with fifteen years of experience, Rodriguez has researched and staged over sixty exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, as well as special exhibits of Pre-Columbian archaeology, ethnographic artifacts, and international arts and crafts for a variety of cultural institutions and not-for-profit organizations in the region. Her curatorial projects in Philadelphia have been staged at The Painted Bride Art Center, Crane Arts International Curatorial Exchange (ICE), Philagrafika 2010 Independent Projects, The Philadelphia Inquirer, SINErgy Project Space + Gallery, The Philadelphia Foundation, Casa de Venezuela’s Diálogo 365 for Art in City Hall, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Best Practices Institute (BPI), The School District of Philadelphia (list incomplete). In New York City she has curated exhibitions for the Hunter College Center for Puerto Rican Studies, the Abrazo Interno Gallery at The Clemente, and Taller Boricua.

Some of her recent appointments include serving as Biennale Researcher for the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) during the 54th Biennale di Venezia, where she conducted research based out of the United States Pavilion during GLORIA, and an exhibition of new and recent works by the internationally renowned artistic duo Allora & Calzadilla. In addition, she has served as a juror in a number of regional and international juried exhibitions, including two rounds of the prestigious Wind Challenge Exhibition Series at the Fleisher Art Memorial, the 2012 Young International Contest of Contemporary Art (YICCA), InLiquid.com’s Anniversary Gala Exhibition, and the University of Pennsylvania Undergraduate Fine Arts Department Annual Exhibition.
