“Sounds of the Season” – The First Annual Rutgers Holiday Concert

The Rutgers–Camden Department of Fine Arts is proud to announce their very first collaborative Holiday Concert, “Sounds of the Season.”  This flagship concert event will feature three of the Music Department’s prominent ensembles, multiple soloists, and several Rutgers–Camden Faculty members performing seasonal selections.

Beginning the concert will be the Rutgers Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Professor Eric Polack. The Jazz Ensemble will be performing a series of instrumental selections including “Greensleeves,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and a medley of other holiday themed tunes.

The Rutgers–Camden Madrigal Ensemble will then take the stage to present traditional, medieval, and renaissance choral music under the direction of world-renowned Soprano, Dr. Julianne Baird, distinguished professor of music.

The concert will then feature the Rutgers University Singers under the direction of Dr. Julia Zavadsky, performing some seasonal favorites. In addition, there will be a guest performance by the Camden Creative Arts High School Choir and several solos and duets by Rutgers–Camden students and faculty.  Arias from Handel’s “Messiah” will feature Dionne Fields and Dr. Baird joined by Dr. Mark Zaki and Stefan Örn Arnarson.

Dr. Zavadsky and Dr. Baird will conclude the concert with a community sing. Post-performance, there will be a reception in the lobby of the Gordon Theater, where the audience members can mingle with the performers and directors while enjoying complimentary cookies and cocoa.

Before and after the performance, there will be a Toy Drive set up in the lobby. Audience members are encouraged to bring a toy with them for donation. All donations received will be distributed to families in need over the holiday season.
