Today is Student Feature Friday! 🎭This Friday we are featuring Theater student Paige Bates. Paige began her college career as a Physical Therapy major, but after Rutgers–Camden announced their production of Rent, she decided to make the switch to Theater. Rent was the first musical that she fell in love with, and she received much support from both the cast and crew to change her major. Some of her favorite productions that she has been a part of were Rent, Triumph of Love, and several of the senior capstones. She is also looking forward to the upcoming production of Urinetown this April! Paige is proud of her involvement with the Stories Invincible writing fellowship, her current fellowship with Theatre Philadelphia in community engagement, and having a successful show with the RU Project band. She feels her real accomplishment, however, is “getting to do what I love with folks who share my values.” There have been many professors and people who have made a positive impact on Paige, including, Toni Morrison, Jonice Schley in the Learning Center, Prof. Dionne Fields, Dr. Baird, Prof. Streater, Prof. Genevieve Perrier, and James Mobley. Her dream job is to be a creative director/producer, eventually settling in a vineyard and raising horses and beekeeping in retirement. She also hopes to one day own a ball python. Women artists who take ownership of their music, such as Solange Knowles, Janelle Monae, and FKA Twigs, are who inspire Paige. When it comes to her work, Paige highly values aesthetics and artistic elements blending cohesively. “I'd like to continue working with people who share those values, and my artistic goals include broadening those horizons and living sustainably off art.” She prides herself in seeing the strengths of those around her and shining light on them whenever possible!
