October 17th – Stass Shpanin  

Stass Shpanin holds his MFA from Tyler School of Art and had exhibited work in the United States, Italy, France, Israel, and Russia. His paintings and installations highlight the American, Russian and European historical conflicts through visual tensions created by manipulating historical photographs, artifacts, coat of arms and natural elements. Stass Shpanin has received numerous fellowships and awards, including the Fulbright Fellowship. He taught and lectured in different institutions including Westfield State University and Skoltech (collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology). In 2014, Shpanin became a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. Recently, his project “Coltland” was shown at Temple Contemporary.
